چکیده

This paper describes a novel use of evolutionary techniques to curate a main stream art show, Tabula Rasa. This allowed an openended approach to curation that was entirely in keeping with the artistic motivations behind the project. We detail a major difficulty with this approach that will be faced by any future automatic curation systems.

Re-envisioning the Chinese Cityscape: Tabula Rasa and Palimpsest

In 1958, Mao Zedong famously compared China's 600 million people to a " blank sheet of paper free from any mark, " on which " the most beautiful words can be written " and the " most beautiful pictures can be painted. " 1 In his view, China's vast landscapes and its people's mindscapes were a tabula rasa awaiting transformation through his utopian blueprints. Since the Chinese Communist Party (...

Reinforcement Learning of Intelligent Characters in Fighting Action Games

Abstract. In this paper, we investigate reinforcement learning (RL) of intelligent characters, based on neural network technology, for fighting action games. RL can be either on-policy or off-policy. We apply both schemes to tabula rasa learning and adaptation. The experimental results show that (1) in tabula rasa leaning, off-policy RL outperforms on-policy RL, but (2) in adaptation, on-policy...

Evolved Cognition and Artificial Cognition

The implicit claim is that such a machine can learn at speeds comparable to learning in humans, and will not require evolutionary time-scales, despite having no specific knowledge about the environment initially, nor even any concepts (an ontology) specific to the environment. This is closely related to the ancient "tabula rasa" theory of knowledge acquisition, summarised here: http://en.wikipe...

Repeated bargaining

Two symmetric players bargain over an infinite stream of pies. There is one exogenously given pie in every period, whose size is stochastic, and the pies are iid. Play can be in a tabula rasa mode or dispute mode. When it is in the former, Nature selects a proposer and a responder with equal probabilities, and a proposal is made by the proposer regarding the division of the present pie. If ther...
